Debunking "The Great Global Warming Swindle"

Since our original post

"The Great Global Warming Swindle" the programme has aired and now the debunking begins (linked to an earlier post today).

These are three of the best debunking blog attempts. Given the relatively good quality of these posts I think we can draw discussion of this emotive topic to an end.

Am I the only one that thinks that economists should just stay out of climate change policy? I think that when economists work on this sort of stuff that it makes economics look like pretty useless. Economics is far from useless but when applied to such a turbulent, mainstream and political idea it just seems to fail.

I'd prefer for focus on smaller issues - regions, ecosystems, industries and nations. Work on the small problems to affect the big ones....or am I just being small minded?

pslis,

You are certainly not the only one to think this. You raise an interesting point but ultimately, assuming we accept the IPCC version of the science, any solution will involve costs and benefits.

Any solution, be it carbon trading or regulations will have costs attached. If we are to reduce pollution you can be certain that economists will be involved in finding the most efficient solution (that is not to say that they will always get it right).

There is no escape from the economics of climate change I am afraid - which is after all what the Stern Review was all about.

In order to effectivley combat climate change it will be up to businesses. NON profit will not change the govt mind, nor will anything else. Businesses will have to prove that going green, not only can you save money but also make large amounts fo money read this story, it truly is amazing and this guy is convinced that it is possible. REMEMBER MY HUMAN FRIENDS. WE MUST ERROR IN THE SIDE OF CAUTION INSTEAD OF CATASTROPHE.

I think the story is called "six cows and a dream" he wrote it and it was published in some magazine. I will come back and tell you the title of this book he wrote. He is really inspirational and my dad and i just bought the book. sorry for being an ass with no info.
