Two unrelated pictures of beaches released today tell their own story (both pictures from today's PlanetArk).
Monitors were thought to have been dumped by recyclers at Tai Long Wan's Beach which (surely) has no link to the millions of dead anchovies that cover La Griega beach near Colunga, northern Spain, September 29, 2006.
If it were not in such poor "environmental taste" I would suggest asking for vaguely or even potentially amusing captions to be posted before Matt returns with another story of impending environmental disaster. However, there is of course a serious side - if it reaches the point where it is cheaper to dump monitors in the sea than to actually go through the process of recycling then the incentive structures are not working. Bring in the economists.
