Power Station Protests

Today around 600 protestors held a 'mass day of action' at the UK's largest coal fired power station. They highlighted the significant carbon emissions produced by the power station and demanded its closure to help reduce the UK's contribution to climate change. Although this power station is perhaps the UK's cleanest coal fired station (in terms of CO2 per unit of electricity) coal generates approximately 2.5 times as much CO2 per unit of electricity generated as gas. Many UK power stations are now gas fired but these protests highlight the UK's continued reliance on coal.
